Privacy Statement
Last updated: October 3, 2026
This privacy statement explains what personal data is processed when you visit roaldnefs.com, why, and what your rights are. The short version: this site doesn’t use analytics, tracking, or advertising, and I don’t collect personal data myself.
Who is responsible
This website is run by Roald Nefs, based in the Netherlands, who is the controller for the processing described here. You can reach me at info@roaldnefs.com. If you’d like to encrypt your message, my PGP key is available.
What data is processed
Hosting
This site is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc. When you visit a page, your browser sends a request to GitHub’s servers. As part of delivering the page and protecting the service, GitHub processes technical data such as your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, and your browser’s user agent. I don’t have access to these logs. See the GitHub Privacy Statement for how GitHub handles this data.
The legal basis is my legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in delivering this website securely and reliably.
Fonts
The fonts on this site (DM Sans, JetBrains Mono, and Space Grotesk) are loaded from Google Fonts, a service of Google. To deliver the fonts, your browser connects to Google’s servers, which means Google receives your IP address and browser details. See the Google Fonts privacy FAQ and the Google Privacy Policy for more information.
The legal basis is my legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in presenting this website consistently across devices.
If you email me, I use your email address and the contents of your message only to reply to you. I don’t share it with anyone else, and I delete it when it’s no longer needed for our conversation.
The legal basis is my legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in responding to your message.
Browser storage
If you use the light/dark mode toggle, your choice is stored in your own browser. It never leaves your device. See the cookie statement for details.
International transfers
GitHub and Google are based in the United States, so the data described above may be processed outside the European Economic Area. Both companies participate in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
Links to other websites
This site links to other websites, such as GitHub, LinkedIn, Mastodon, and the sites of the companies I work for. Their own privacy policies apply once you follow those links.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. To exercise these rights, email info@roaldnefs.com. For data processed by GitHub or Google, you can also contact them directly.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In the Netherlands, that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Changes
I may update this statement when the site changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
